This index to educational programs in orthotics and prosthetics is based in the guide prepared by the Canadian Prosthetics and Orthotics, whose mission is to promote and enhance primary education in O&P. It describes technician programs which are accredited by the CBCPO (Canadian Board of Certification for Prosthetists and Orthotists).
Technicians Technicians support practitioners in providing patient care by fabricating orthoses and prostheses and their components. Education is based on a two-year degree or post-graduate certificate from an CBCPO accredited institution.
CREDENTIALING
Technicians who successfully fulfill all education requirements of an CBCPO accredited program and pass the certification examination administered by the Canadian Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists (CAPO) are granted the title of Registered Technician in orthotics and/or prosthetics. The list above is designed to give an overview of available programs. Detailed information may be obtained by contacting individual institutions.
